Lay one piece of the lining on a worktable right side up. Lay the second piece of the lining on the worktable covering the first, right side down. Pin the two pieces together making sure to line up the edges. Fold the fabric in half and place a straight pin at the halfway point. Starting at the upper left hand corner, sew a line using a 1/4 inch seam to the lower corner, pivot, and sew to about 1 1/2 inches from the halfway point. Then, repeat on the right hand side stopping about 1 inch from the halfway point.
3
Cut Fusible Interfacing
Take the piece of fusible interfacing and lay it on the worktable so that the short edges are at the top and bottom. Take the right side and fold it over so it needs the left hand side. Press on the crease with your thumb so that you have a crisp fold line. Open the interfacing back up and cut on the fold line.
4
Cut Pocket Material
Take the pocket material and lay it on the worktable so that the short edges are at the top and bottom. Take the right hand side and fold it over so that it meets the left hand side. Using an iron set to the right temperature for the material iron this line. Open the fabric and cut on the fold.
5
Attach Fusible Interfacing
Lay the material back on the table with the short ends at the top and bottom. The wrong side of the material should be facing up. Lay the fusible interfacing on top of the material with the rough side against the fabric. Move to the ironing board and cover the interfacing with a damp press cloth. Set the iron on top of the pressing cloth and apply pressure while you slowly count to five. Remove the pressing cloth and see if all the fusible interfacing attached to the fabric. If not, repeat on any unattached areas. Repeat for the other piece of fabric. The interfacing adds body to the fabric, so that it will last for a longer period.
6
Make Pockets
Return the fabric to the worktable, but this time place the fabric so that the long edges are at the top and bottom. Start with one piece of fabric and starting on the right hand side, measure up 4 inches, and bring 2 inches of the fabric to the back creating a pocket. Measure up another 1/2 inch and bring about two inches to the back. This process is similar to folding a paper fan, but the folds are staggered. Repeat until you have made four pockets. Pin in place as you work. When all done, press with an iron set to the right temperature for the fabric you are working with.
7
Sew Pockets
Starting at a corner, run a line of stitching using the sewing machine set to eight to ten stitches to the inch down each long side. Trim off excess fabric. The finished piece should measure about 4 inches by 5 inches. Repeat for the other piece of fabric. Trim to the seam line you just created.
8
Attach to Wallet
Take one of the 8 X 4 inch pieces and lay one of the pockets that you just created on the right hand side so that the pockets are facing the middle of the wallet lining up the edges. Right sides should be together. Repeat with the left hand side. You should have a small gap in the middle. Pin in place and start sewing on the right hand corner. Sew clear around the perimeter until you are about 1 inch from your starting point. Trim along the seam. Turn the piece right side out.
9
Attach to Wallet Cover
Lay the piece that you just created on your worktable. Take the other 8 X 4 inch piece and lay on top of it so that you have right sides together. Sew around the entire perimeter leaving a 1-inch opening. Turn right side out.
10
Attach Liner
Push the liner inside the wallet cover and line up the top edges. Pin in place and sew around the outside edge. Push liner inside wallet. Make sure to pay attention to the corners so they will lay properly. Iron the wallet so that it looks nice and crisp.
